Framily is looking forward to a safe and joyful experience for all beings including working dogs. A working dog according to the ADA is as follows:
ACTION: FINAL RULE ADA Title III
ADA Subpart A 36.104 Definitions
Service animal means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not service animals for the purposes of this definition. The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the handler´s disability. Examples of work or tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision with navigation and other tasks, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to the presence of people or sounds, providing non-violent protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, assisting an individual during a seizure, alerting individuals to the presence of allergens, retrieving items such as medicine or the telephone, providing physical support and assistance with balance and stability to individuals with mobility disabilities, and helping persons with psychiatric and neurological disabilities by preventing or interrupting impulsive or destructive behaviors. The crime deterrent effects of an animal´s presence and the provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship do not constitute work or tasks for the purposes of this definition.
Dogs who are not specifically trained and certified by an organization focused on working dogs cannot come to the festival. Being without your dog is a hardship. The festival is not good for dogs who are not trained to manage highly stimulating and overwhelming environments.Pet dogs who are not prepared to manage that level of stress have been known to become aggressive, to be unpredictable or to become ill. This is bad for everyone.
For working dogs who are already performing at their highest level the addition of an aggressive encounter with another dog can be traumatic enough that the working dog cannot work.
Being an ally to a working dog means not adding to their work load. This includes interacting with them in any way. They are already maxed out. Having to also ignore your warm and friendly interaction in order to maintain their concentration is not actually a kindness to the dog.
Any dog that comes to the festival that demonstrates aggression will be asked to leave the festival immediately.
Thank you in advance for your help and understanding.
